Members of Slow Food Eugene and Slow Food Corvallis spent a beautiful late-summer afternoon at the University of Oregon Urban Farm, tasting heirloom pear cultivars from the USDA Pear Genebank in Corvallis. Our efforts will be used in the search for Ark of Taste candidates. USDA staff provided expert guidance, and Brindiamo Catering and Ciao Restaurant prepared special sweets and savories featuring the pears.

The “Dabney” was a popular variety.

The “Ayers” also received high praise from the taste-testers.
